Rathna Kumar honored with trio of Awards in 2006

For her 30 years of service to classical arts, Houston based dancer and choreographer Rathna Kumar was honored at the 28th Thyagaraja Aradhana Festival in Cleveland, with the title of "Nrithya Seva Mani", traditionally presented by the Bhairavi Indian Fine Arts Society on this occasion. Rathna is the second Indian dancer in the US to receive this honor.

On April 8, Rathna received an Honorary Doctorate degree from the Telugu University in Hyderabad, and on May 20, she received an award in the Performing Arts category from the Asian Pacific American Heritage Society in Houston.

Earlier this year, the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the Telugu University, Hyderabad, named Rathna as the Chairman, Board of Studies, USA, for on-line courses in Kuchipudi, a first of its kind in North America.
