t
the Anjali Center for Performing Arts
(a Texas not for profit organization dedicated
to promoting and preserving Indian performing
arts), now in its 32nd year of operation,
the legendary tradition of Indian Classical
Dance is safely preserved. Since its inception
in 1975, Anjali, Texas’ first and premier
Indian dance academy, has blossomed into
a renowned institution, under the direction
of its Founder, internationally reputed
danseuse Rathna Kumar. The phenomenal strides
achieved in these past twenty-nine years
mark the institution as a microcosm of joy,
energy, awareness, sense of accomplishment
and integrity.
Today,
on the threshold of a new phase in its growth,
Anjali is being designed as not merely a
dance school, but an institute that imparts
a comprehensive arts education. Plans are
under way to include classes in Music, Yoga,
Visual Art, Drama, and Art Appreciation.
The new Anjali Center will have a library
well equipped with books, audio/videocassettes
and DVDs pertaining to Indian performing
arts, an on-site boutique with all dance
accessories, and a performance space for
chamber concerts. Art, it is said, builds
bridges. It is our dream and vision to make
Anjali one of the strongest cultural conduits
in the country, by harmoniously melding
the best of the East and the best of the
West.
